Ever get that tightness between your shoulder blades? The ache in your neck? A headache that seems to come on whenever you are stressed? Fatigued in the middle of the day? Or just that child who won’t seem to focus? All of these are caused by subluxations of the spine, which irritates the nerve running to that particular muscle, organ or cell that decreases the normal function of whatever that nerve supplies. The nervous system is made up of 20% pain fibers and 80% function fibers. So when the pain fibers are irritated you feel pain, but when the function nerves are irritated you don’t feel anything, you just lose 100% function. These functional nerves control your heart, lungs, liver, adrenals, and every other organ in the body. So what is a subluxation? It is defined as a minor misalignment of the segment of the spine (vertebrae), causing an irritation to a nerve, with a loss of normal function. Subluxations are caused by any stress that a person cannot adapt to. This stress can be caused by physical, mental, chemical or all three. By the time the average American child reaches the age of 13 they have had 1,000 traumas. These traumas are caused by what we consider normal childhood activities, when we learn to walk, fall off our bike, trip while running, rough housing with friends and siblings, and many many more normal activities.
We are now part of a society that sits and looks at computers, tablets, and phones all day. A new term called the “text neck” has been coined due to our posture while looking at our phones all the time. Far too many live their lives hunched over and with their necks stuck out like turtles. Doctors call this “forward head posture,” and studies prove that for every inch your head sticks out from a true center of gravity, your neck bears an extra 10 pounds of stress. Just think about how common and dangerous this can be for your health! During routine posture and spinal checks we often find that our patient’s heads stick out 2-3 inches which translates into an extra 20-30 pounds! Think the stress of having an extra 20-30 pounds putting pressure on your neck may cause irritation to the nerves?
But why Chiropractic care? Chiropractors have a unique approach to helping neck pain, low back pain, fatigue, posture, acid re-flux, and much more, and because we have a unique approach to health we often get results that other doctors do not. We focus on the damage or irritation to the nerves that are caused by stress, trauma, or both. An added bonus to chiropractic care was shown in a study that the Journal of American Medical Association published, showing a 6 year study of people who receive chiropractic care saved money over the people who went to see their medical doctors.(1) Got an activity such as golf, tennis, or just working in the yard or garden that you would like to do pain free and with 100% function?
